Holding the 11th Korea-China Joint Committee on Ocean Science and Technology Cooperation

The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs (Minister Kwon Do-yeop) will hold the 11th Korea-China Joint Committee on Maritime Science and Technology Cooperation with the State Oceanic Administration in Jeju on November 19 (Mon).

The Korea-China Joint Committee on Ocean Science and Technology Cooperation will be held every other year under the auspices of the two governments under the Memorandum of Understanding on Korea-China Marine Science and Technology Cooperation ('94.10) and will discuss ways to promote marine science and technology cooperation and discover areas of cooperation between the two countries during the meeting.

* The 10th Korea-China Joint Committee on Maritime Science and Technology Cooperation ('09.11/Beijing, China)


The main issues of discussion at this meeting include cooperation in the establishment of a marine nuclear safety monitoring and prediction system between Korea and China, joint exploration of polar waters and exchange of experts using icebreaking research ships from both countries.

 

In addition, the Korean and Chinese authorities will focus on ways to revitalize the Korea-China Marine Science Cooperation Center (based in Qingdao, China) so that it can play a central role in maritime-related cooperation projects between the two countries.
